Table 3.3   Server Type Options
Option Description
Type of Dial-Up Server The type of machine you’re dialing into; the choices are

  • CSLIP: Unix Connection with IP Header Compression (only if SLIP is installed)
  • NRN: NetWare Connect
  • PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet (default)
  • SLIP Internet: Unix Connection (only if SLIP is installed)
  • Windows for Workgroups and Windows NT 3.1
Log on to network DUN will try to log on to the network using the user name and password you used to log on to Windows, or a different user name and password specified for this connectoid.
Enable software compression Speed up the transfer of information by compressing it before it is sent, assuming the computer on each end supports it. (PPP only)
Require encrypted password Add security by specifying that your computer will send and receive only encrypted passwords. This is useful only if the computer you’re connecting to supports password encryption. (PPP only)
Allowed network protocols For maximum efficiency, select only the protocol(s) that you actually need to connect to the other computer. The choices are

  • NetBEUI (PPP and RAS)
  • IPX/SPX Compatible (NRN and PPP only)
  • TCP/IP (CSLIP, PPP, and SLIP only)
